IT WAS a good day for the Sully Spartans Cricket Club with the first team winning by eight wickets and the 2nds winning by 187 runs.

The firsts played Cynon Valley at Wenvoe and thanks to the Vale Council who, despite the overnight rain, provided an excellent track.

Skipper Morgan won the toss and after some thought decided to bowl first, a decision which would prove to be the right one.

With new-comers Dilmon and Soban in the team for the first side they were raring to go.

Syed Abbas opened the bowling and finished with an excellent two for 38 off six overs.

Morgan then produced a fine display of swing bowling finishing with figures of nine overs two maidens six for 35.

Jacob P and Satish chipped in with a wicket apiece, with Soban unlucky on this occasion not to get a wicket and Cynon Valley were dismissed for 124. Credit to wicket Dan Pons.

In response the Spartans stuck to their task and despite the loss of an early wicket new-comer Dilmon (66 not out) and Sreejith (34) pushed the score steadily along to within striking distance before Sreejith was caught just before the winning post. It was left to Dilmon to hit the winning runs and the Spartans were victors by eight wickets.
