DINAS Powys Cricket Club 1st XI suffered a heavy defeat by 115 runs at Parc Bryn-y-Don on Saturday, June 11.

On an overcast day Monmouth won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite picking up the early wicket of the dangerous Monmouth vice-captain Josh Grey (5), Dinas endured a long day in the field as runs came fluently from Monmouth skipper Ben Turner (62) and Adam Roberts (136) as they took the score to 114/2 before Turner’s innings came to an end.

Dinas could not stem the flow of runs and even though stand in skipper Jeff Mitchell rotated his bowlers runs still flowed from the bats of the Monmouth middle order. Contributions came from Dave Croudace (30) and Tom Vickers (38). Roberts was the mainstay of the Monmouth innings though, his match winning 136 included 16 fours and six sixes.

For Dinas Saaj Ali (3/84) was the pick of the bowlers as Monmouth closed on an imposing looking 302/6 from their allocated overs.

In reply Dinas struggled to maintain any kind of partnerships. However, good contributions from Asad Rizvi (30) and Joseph Beames (46) tried to keep the board ticking over and edging Dinas to the mammoth total.

Despite these contributions Dinas were bowled all out for 187 in the 37th over. In the field Monmouth help all their catches and there were good contributions from all of the bowlers Alim Hansraj (2/29 off nine), Ben Turner (2/44 off nine), Adam Roberts (2/35 off four) and Raj Kuttappu (4/24 off 8.4). The villagers will look to get back to winning ways when they make the short trip to Hayes Point to play local rivals Barry Wanderers on Saturday, 1pm start.

The 2nd XI travelled to Croesyceiliog where batting first the hosts amassed a huge 335-6, helped by some wayward bowling from the villagers. Despite such a daunting total, Dinas didn't lie down and took the attack to Croesy with contributions from Kyle Hughes (65) and Miles Wilton (58) in reaching 299 before being bowled out.

The 3rds game was cancelled as Brynmawr were unable to raise a side.
