LAST week provided a superb set of results for Penarth Bowling Club with the men winning all three matches played without a single losing rink and the ladies continuing their excellent run with yet two more successful outings.

On Wednesday, June 29, Penarth played hosts to their nearest neighbours, Penarth Belle Vue in a Munro Cup match.

Belle Vue are always popular visitors to Rectory Road but the reception on the green was not particularly neighbourly as Penarth proceeded to dominate the proceedings throughout, winning on all four rinks and gaining 14 valuable points in the process.

Top performers were Jack Beanland, Derrick Musk, Guy Thomas and skip Dave Dalby (28-7) and close behind were Russell Daniel, Dick Edwards, Rob Grant and Dave Clements (23-8).

With Nick Thomas (17-12) and Nick chandler (15-10) also well in command, victory was assured.

On Saturday, Penarth were successful again, this time in the away game at Sully Sports, Penarth. Yet again, the Rectory Road men scored maximum points with all four rinks ahead at the close.

In an impressive display of bowling the home side were very much in control with the top rink on this occasion being provided by Terry Buckingham, Neil Gaskell, Rob Grant and Colin Grant (21-12). Also well to the fore were Phil Davies, Dick Edwards, Bob Lewis and skip Dave Clements (21-14).

Good wins for Dave Dalby (20-15) and Nick Chandler(23-18) put the issue beyond doubt.

Things went even better for the PG 2 side in Saturday’s home game with Whitchurch Hospital. Such was Penarth’s dominance in this one that they ran out victors by no less than 63 shots.

Haydn Trow must have thought that Christmas had come early as his rink, which included Berwyn Lansley, Mike England and Colin Hicks, cruised to a 39-9 victory. Meanwhile, Alan Stockham, with the help of Russell Daniel, Ron Birkby and Phil Davidge weighed in with a 28-13 win and the Brian Brennan rink (26-16) and Bob Hill’s four (20-12) ensured that this was to be the best performance of the season for Russell Daniel’s team.

Last week saw no let up in Penarth ladies recent golden run of form as they notched up two more impressive victories.

The outstanding feature of the Evening League match with Penarth Windsor was an emphatic 21-8 win for skip Belinda Price, ably backed up by Lorraine Palmer, Betty Jones and Kath Jenkins. After a tight first half Tricia Brinkworth, with Chris Church, Jill Gaskell and Wendy Grant gained control to win 17-13 and seal victory.

The same two skips were also well to the fore in the Afternoon League match with Cadoxton and thanks to Tricia, Lorraine Palmer, Mary Bowen and Joyce Allen (21-7) and Belinda, this time teamed up with Chris Church, Lynda Williams and Wendy Grant (20-11) a very satisfactory 21 shot overall lead was assured.
