LADY Captain’s Day at Glamorganshire Golf Club on Tuesday, June 14 was heralded with a blustery wet start and the marquee threatened to blow away.

However this didn’t stop the ladies enjoying a Texas Scramble with a welcome half-way stop for refreshments and photos with the captain. Prize giving in the evening followed their dinner. The winners were Mollie Jones, Ellen Davies and Gemma Scott with 65 points.

Glamorganshire had its best result for years at the Welsh Team Championships on June 17-18. Playing for the club were Julia Baker, Janet Smith, Samantha Edwards, Megan Blunsdon and Emma Greenslade.

They won their first and second round matches against Dinas Powys and Pyle and Kenfig respectively but were narrowly defeated in the quarter-finals by the Vale of Llangollen.

On June 28, the ladies celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with a shotgun three ball alliance and lunch. The winning team was Peni Malsam, Lucinda Cadenne de Lannoy, and Linda Seymour with 80 points.

On June 7 the ladies played in the Championship and Piddocke Cup qualifier (medal) – the best eight gross scores from the silver division qualify for the club championship 2017 and similarly the bronze division for the Piddocke Cup 2017.

Best nett: Christina Edwards (74) wins the Scott Chard Cup; best gross: Julia Baker (85) wins the Vera Thomas Salver.

They played a stableford on June 21 and the Victory Vase was won by Heather Atkin and the Centenary Rosebowl by Margaret Kirk.
