DINAS Powys Cricket Club's 1st XI took on bottom-of-the-table Llantwit Fadre at Bryn y Don on Saturday, looking for maximum points to keep possible promotion in their sights.

Gordon Hannah and Jeff Mitchell opened up for Dinas, but Mitchell went with the score on 17, and with Risvi and Todd-Bennett following Dinas found themselves in a tough situation at 52-3.

Curtis Wingren joined Hannah and the pair moved the score to 134 before a mix-up saw Wingren run out for 39. Hannah by now was in tremendous nick, and having got to a well deserved hundred put his foot on the gas.

He was well supported by Joe Beames (34) and Dani Zaman who hit a cameo unbeaten 22 from just five balls faced (only four of which were scored off), but it was Hannah who stole the show carrying his bat for a magnificent unbeaten 183, setting a new club record in the process and leading Dinas to a daunting 304 - 5 of their 45.

After the tea break, a tight opening spell by the in-form Saaj Ali (1 - 25) and skipper Lewis Clarke (1 - 36) meant Fardre had no chance of chasing the total down, but it was the guile of Asad Rizvi (3 - 28) and Zaman (3 - 5) who ran through the opposition, bowling them out for just 126 in the 42nd over.

A big maximum points win that keeps the Villagers in touch, but there is no doubt the highlight of the day was the 183 from Gordon Hannah.

The 2nds travelled the short distance to Llandaff Fields where Cardiff Gymkhana scored 224 - 8. In the end that proved too much for the Villagers who recovered from 87 - 4 to post a respectable 195.

In Division 8 of the South East Wales Cricket League, Sully Spartans proved far too strong for the 3rds on the commons. Spartans amassed 221 - 5 in their 40 overs, whilst Dinas were bowled out for just 70 in reply.
