MURCH Bowling Club ladies section started their latest round of fixtures against Romilly in a Double Rink match.

This re-arranged match on July 18 provided the clubs with an even encounter on both rinks. However, Romilly proved the stronger on both rinks on Murch's home green with a narrow margin of seven shots, ending 28-35.

Rink 2: C Russell, G Hayes, A Orchard and skip S Wade - Murch 12, Romilly 15

Next up was an Afternoon League match against Rectory Road on July 21. Playing at home to the Penarth club for the second of the seasonal fixtures, saw Murch defeated for the second time, losing two of the three rinks with one losing narrowly.

The overall score of 47 shots to 56 gave Rectory Road a margin of nine shots.

On July 22, the ladies teamed up with the men's side to compete in the Village Cup. This annual event was hosted by the Murch Club and is an eagerly anticipated fixture as a mixed game in the calendar against Dinas Powys.

The Dinas Powys club had held it for the last five years.

The Murch president, Roger Mauchline, welcomed the visiting team and the friendly rivalry began on all six rinks. The eventual outcome was a win on four rinks for Murch with an overall score of 93 shots to 63.

Murch ladies captain Eileen Carryer received the trophy, expressing her delight on behalf of all club members at the ensuing buffet and after proceedings which were enjoyed by all. The host club was thanked by Dinas Powys captain Judy Meddins who looks forward to next year's encounter to regain the trophy.

On July 27, Murch ladies visited Cadoxton and were evenly matched, each club won one rink with close scores. Cadoxton just managed to fain one shot overall to give them a 30-29 win.

Rink 2: C Russell, L Sandercott, S Wade and skip A Orchard - Cadoxton 17, Murch 13

The following day, Murch welcomed Penylan in the second meeting of the clubs. The ladies achieved a second win over the Cardiff club with a large margin on both rinks.

The final match of the week on July 29, was a three rink fixture against Cadoxton. In the second encounter of the club's, Murch managed to win by seven shots, thanks to rink three players, having lost one rink and drawn another after two keenly contested games.

Murch won overall by 47 shots to 40.
