PENARTH Bowling Club had mixed fortunes in last week’s games with one win and one loss recorded.

Wednesday’s mixed match on August 31, produced a convincing 30 shot victory, with the outstanding rink comprising Viv Duckers, Mary Bowen, Alan Stockham and skip Bob Hill (29 - 8).

Also well to the fore was Haydn Trow, with Joan Lewis, Diana Willcocks and Reg Jones (23 - 5), and Chris Davies, John Bowen, June Williams and skip Dave Dalby (22 - 13).

On Thursday, September 1, the club made its annual trip to The Victoria Club in Weston-super-Mare on a beautiful summer’s day. Perhaps the conviviality of the traditional lunch stop at Portishead took its toll, as events on the green saw the home side take the initiative in this one with a 29 shot overall success.

Penarth did produce two winning rinks however. Ron Birkby, Phil Davidge, Phil Davies and Clive Fry won 20 - 18 and there was an outstanding performance from Berwyn Lansley, John Bowen, Dave Plank and Dave Dalby with a thumping 27 - 12 triumph.
