YOUNG people in the Vale of Glamorgan with a passion for sport are encouraged to join an Olympic legacy programme to develop their skills.

Coaches of the Future Plus is a Vale of Glamorgan Sports Development team Olympic legacy programme, with the aim to inspire future generations of participants and coaches.

The scheme is designed to give young people the opportunity to develop their interest in sports leadership and coaching, and provides a structured programme of training opportunities alongside the chance to coach.

Previously open to those aged between 16 and 19, this year’s programme has been expanded to include people up to the age of 24. Participants will be required to undergo an application process to ensure that the programme is right for them, as the sports development team expect a commitment from applicants in terms of regularly assisting at community sport/activity sessions.

In return, as a coach of the future, successful candidates will be able to receive a range of benefits, including a number of qualifications relevant to a future in coaching; opportunities to develop personal skills, such as communication and organisational skills; priority selection for work experience opportunities within sports development; first aid and disability inclusion training.

Councillor Gwyn John, cabinet member for visible, leisure and regulatory services, said of Coaches of the Future: “This represents a fantastic opportunity for young people in the Vale of Glamorgan. The scheme will support and assist all committed applicants, and aims to place these applicants onto a clear coaching pathway.”
