PENARTH Bowling Club’s successful indoor run has continued over the past weeks with three victories recorded at Rectory Road.

Just before Christmas, Cowbridge Bowling Club gave Penarth a real scare when they pushed the home side all the way in a close game with only five shots overall difference at the close.

Narrow wins for Alan Stockham and Nick Thomas were nullified by a heavy defeat for Bob Willmott’s four, where Tony Gent seemed to be too pre-occupied with the Cardiff City result.

Rectory Road’s saviour was once again Dave Dalby, who, ably backed by John Bowen, Russell Daniel and Phil Davies pulled off an 11 shot win to spare the home team’s blushes.

Murch Bowling Club are certainly no strangers to the indoor stadium and Wednesday’s (January 4) match proved to be a very enjoyable affair indeed.

Strong performances from Dave Dalby, Derrick Musk, Alan Stockham and Ron Birkby (23 - 10) and Bob Lewis, Phil Davies, Lawrence Brooke and Brian Knight (25 - 13) and a solid win for Colin Grant’s rink ensured victory but special mention must be made of a fine performance by the Murch quartet of Doug Bateman, Derek Davies, Terry Phillips and J Flye for an excellent 15 - 13 win.

Saturday’s (January 7) mixed match saw Penarth entertain ever popular visitors, Llantwit Major.

Despite a spirited performance from the Llantwit side the Penarth bowlers were in particularly good form on this occasion and ran out victorious on three rinks.

It was Dave Clements, determined to shake off his 'marigold gloves image' who excelled in this one with a 24 - 4 win, aided by Barbara Brown, Ron Birkby and Dave Rogan.

Good consistent bowling from Bob Lewis, John Whitfield, Berwyn Lansley and Joan Lewis (24 - 11) and Haydn Trow, Paul Church, Chris Church and Don Butler (19 - 9) - all that practice is finally paying off, Haydn - set the seal on success and with captain Alan Stockham’s rink pinching a four on the last end to gain a draw, it was success all around in a thoroughly entertaining game.
