AT THIS time of the year, when people are thinking of Easter Eggs and hot cross buns, Penarth Bridge Club members look toward the Individual Club Championship and the prizes of a unique Eggcup, designed and thrown each year by potter Fleen Doran.

On Tuesday, March 21, after a hectic night of moving quickly around the bridge tables, while eating and drinking, the Eggcups were won by Mike Downey and by Hazel Craig.

The Penarth Club are the current Welsh Team of Eight Champions and on March 19, they started the defence of their title by playing in the area qualifying round.

Once again the team were successful, beating teams from Cardiff, Barry, Gwent, and Chepstow by a huge margin and now look forward to the country finals in the summer.

The team was Tony Ratcliff, Trish Tracey, Helen Davies, Diana Jones, Eric Favager, Mike Downey, John Salisbury and Joy Secular.

The club continues to run a beginners session on a Thursday morning from 11am until 2pm.

If you want to learn about the game you might wish to join the club.

If you would like to play at the Kymin on Tuesday and/or Friday nights please contact the membership secretary Hazel on 029 2051 4719 or view the website at bridgewebs.com/penarth/
