OLD PENARTHIANS Under 13s season drew to a close with an impressive win against Rhiwbina.

The tone of the game was set early on when Ellis Cross scored direct from the kick off with an excellent individual try.

Giving their opponents no time to regroup, Old Penarthians continued to pressurise and scored further tries through their captain and man of the match Josh Edwards.

The second of these was a superb opportunistic interception try, and with Joe Tanner maintaining a 100 per cent record for conversions the lead grew to 28-0 at half time.

The second half saw a change in fortune for Rhiwbina who began to exert more pressure through their forwards and scored three tries in quick succession, but additional scores by Josh Edwards (taking his total to five for the match) and Ellis Cross meant the end result was never in doubt, and Old Penarthians ran out comfortable winners by a final score of 57-22.

The game was a fitting end not only to the season but also the Old Penarthians career of one of its stalwarts, Georgia Morgan who has been a cornerstone of the team for more than seven years and captaining it for much of that period.

This is the last season Georgia will play for Old Penarthians as mixed sides aren’t permitted beyond the age of 13.

She been one of the side’s most inspirational and influential players through thick and thin and her teammates, coaches and friends thank her for her service and wish her all the very best in her future rugby exploits.
