OLD PENARTHIANS based under nines and under 11s Mariners travelled to the Merthyr Steelers Girls WRU rugby festival, coming away with impressive displays at both ages in the fourth of this seasons Blues Cluster festivals.

For the under nines girls, Flo Robinson went off like a rocket linking well with Magi Hall as they opened up the Jesters defence on several occasions, resulting in some superb tries.

Hard work from Lilly Morse, Mair Hill and Elmari Venter in defence resulted in good turnovers, allowing the free flowing Mariners to control the game.

With good numbers the Bridgers were able to rotate subs, but Elmari Venters direct run from the re-start created a superb break and length of the pitch try. With more great running from Flo Robinson and pass of the day from Lilly Morse who set up Daisy Frankling to finish in the corner.

Superbly organised, the Miners hit the Mariners cold with several easy tries, but Daisy Franking’s lovely pass to Mair Hill saw her gallop 30 yards with Mariners speedsters Magi Hall and Flo Robinson on hand to even out the try count.

In the under 11s girls section, the Chargers direct running and offloading saw the Mariners on the back foot and it was only Charlotte Palmers amazing defence that secured some scraps of ball to stop the onslaught. Ball in hand Mariners created some space as Mia Hall jinked through several gaps supported by Seren Keegan, her direct run fixed the Chargers defence creating space outside and a great try from Darcy Thomas, overall a very impressive team handling display.

Jesters fast pace tested the Mariners, with Millie Large, Hannah Jones and Charlotte Palmer all making vital tags to stop easy tries. Growing in confidence Mariners showed what they can do ball in hand with excellent off loading and direct runs from Mia Hall, Darcy Thomas and Seren Keegan ending the game on a high note.

Bridgers' physicality was a different test, but Mariners coped well and soon got ball in hand. Charlotte Palmer made several superb runs, with Mia Hall weaving her way up the pitch and Hannah Jones on hand running 20 metre's with a superb offload for try of the day by Millie Large.

The girls Mariners head to Cardiff Capitals festival on July 9.
