IT WAS ANOTHER mixed weekend of results for Penarth Cricket Club as the first team fell to defeat.

They travelled to Ammanford on Saturday (July 1) and chose to field first after winning the toss.

The hosts reached 218-7 from their 50 overs with 71 from captain Alun Evans and Elis Richards with 55.

Richard Skone starred with the ball for the bears with 3-36 with Ali Bukkhari (2-28) and Oliver Pike (2-41) also chipping in.

In reply, Penarth were bowled out for 173 in the 46th over.

Nick Morgan hit 41 but it was not enough to save Penarth from a 45 run defeat.

The second XI picked up a magnificent win on Saturday as they hosted St Fagans at the Athletic Ground.

The visitors won the toss and chose to field first.

Penarth were eventually all out for a superb 295 with just two balls of the innings to spare.

Dafydd Manley was the star of the show with 124 as the bears set a massive target.

St Fagans finished on 151-9, handing Penarth a 144 run victory.

Morgan Crimp (3-36), Will Skone (3-28), Andy Graveson (2-41) and Tim Miller (1-38) were Penarth's wicket takers.

The third team travelled to Blaina on Saturday in the first of a double header for them last weekend.

In the first game, the hosts won the toss and batted first.

Blaina were bowled out for 145 from 39 overs with Mark Frost, Dan Anderton, Rhys McGowan and John Fitzpatrick picking up two wickets each and Neil Stephens one.

Penarth reached their target in the 35th over for the loss of six wickets.

An impressive 95 from Pete Docherty led the way for the bears who ran out winners by four wickets.

The fourths achieved a dramatic late win as they hosted Newport Fugitives at the Athletic Ground.

The away side won the toss and elected to bat first.

They reached 160 before they were bowled out in the final over of their innings.

Skipper Andrew Prickett was the pick of the bowlers with 4-14 as Callum McInnes got 2-11.

In reply, Penarth won off the final ball of the match with just one wicket remaining.

Keith James top scored with 39 for the bears who just edged home for a vital victory.

On Sunday, the third team was in action again as they visited Undy and Magor.

The bears won the toss and opted to bat first.

Penarth were bowled out for 146 in the 40th over as Jamie Hitchen with 42.

In response, Undy and Magor reached their target in the 30th over, losing just three wickets.

Mike Price led the way with 69 runs and despite the best efforts of Jamie Hitchen with 1-11, Undy and Magor ran out seven wicket winners.

Next week the first team hosted Ynysygerwn whilst the second team travel to play Tata Steel.

The thirds host Pontnewynydd and the fourth team travels to Croesyceiliog.
