The LADIES of Penarth Bowls Club stole most of the limelight in recent weeks with some impressive and well earned victories. Mackintosh were the first to suffer, being soundly beaten by 41 shots to 16.

Betty Jones , Wendy Grant, Jill Gaskell and Jayne Edwards led the way with a crushing win 23-9.

Belinda Price, Captain Kath, Maureen Dalby and Sue Roberts also weighed in with a convincing win by 18-9.

This was quickly followed by another resounding conquest of visitors Cadoxton.

Winning by a margin of 22 shots (46-22) rinks skipped by Val Letton ( 25 - 10 ) and Lynda Williams ( 21 - 14 ) led to the team to victory.

One week later saw another stunning triumph with the humbling of Fairwater.

This time the margin was 30 shots ( 53 - 23 ) with Betty Jones rink ( 30 - 11 ) again leading the way, with great assistance from Kath Jenkins, Wendy Grant & Sue Roberts.

Belinda Piece, Tricia Brinkworth, Jayne Edwards and Chris Davies weighed in with a comfortable 23 - 12 win.

Watch this space for further good news.

The gentlemen however continue to stutter somewhat as their PG1 campaign falters.

Firstly a 70 - 89 defeat away at Pontyclun disappointed somewhat despite the valiant efforts of Daddy and Bobby Grant. Both skipped winning rinks to earn the only points available. A tricky green did not in fairness contribute to the afternoon's efforts.

Next up was a home encounter against local antagonists Windsor.

High hopes of a welcome win were shattered when all four rinks surrendered providing Windsor with all 14 points.

It was however felt that the battle of the banter was won by the home side, but no points are available for sharp wit.

The PG1 Saturday disappointment was quickly followed on Sunday by the two rink Alan Martin Cup contest.

Yet again sadness reigned over the Rectory green as Windsor prevailed with a well earned aggregate triumph by 14 shots ( 29 - 43 ).

Wound licking is becoming somewhat of a habit for Capy Mike and his followers.

However there were no licking of wounds following the earlier Munro encounter as a visit to Belle Vue produced an astonishing 89 to 40 shot victory.

All four rinks registered wins banking a most welcome 14 points. There may well be light at the end of the tunnel.
