SULLY Centurions, along with most other cricket clubs in south Wales, saw Saturday’s games become victims of the weather.

The first XI match at Monmouth was abandoned in the first innings and the second XI match against Monmouth second XI was called off without a ball being bowled.

However, there was some good news on Sunday as the rearranged first XI game against Machen was able to take place at Sully in spite of some interruptions for rain.

The visitors batted first and were soon in trouble as the opening pair of Caddy and Roberts were back in the pavilion with only four runs on the board.

Wickets began tumbling, shared between the Sully bowlers and things were looking pretty bad for Machen with the score at 55 for 5 at the halfway stage.

But a gutsy 62 from Fussell gave them some hope as well as frustrating the Centurions attack.

But with two wickets falling in the last over, including the run out of Tamplin with the final ball, Centurions secured maximum bowling points as Machen were all out for 147. Nathan Cuddihy, with 2 for 9 and Dave Goodway (2 for 38) were the pick of the home bowlers.

In reply, in spite of the early loss of Ben Spear, via a run out, Santosh Singh (74, including eight fours and two sixes) and Rhett Jones with 65 (including seven fours and one six) saw Centurions home in only 16 overs, thus securing another victory which keeps Sully on the coat tails of Crumlin at the top of the table.

Sully Centurions are grateful to ‘T Shirt Printing 4U’ for sponsoring the match balls and to The Seashore Grill for once again providing the teas.

Their thanks also go to their newest sponsors, New Broad Street Motors.

On Saturday Centurions face Vale CC at Burnham Avenue with the second XI travelling to face Vale second XI in the reverse fixture.

Then on Sunday the seconds travel for the rearranged league match at Machen. All players are asked to contact either Dave Sylvester or Jake Griffett with their availability.
