PENARTH's cricketers were beaten by the Duckworth Lewis method this weekend as rainy conditions presented themselves once again.

The first team travelled to play Port Talbot Town on Saturday (July 29) and having loss the toss the bears were put into bat first.

They reached 167 before they were bowled out in 43 overs with Scott Matthews' 50 being the highlight of the innings.

In reply, Port Talbot Town got to 104-4 in the 33rd over which was enough to see them win on Duckworth Lewis as the match was abandoned due to rain.

Scott Matthews (2-24) and Richard Skone (2-16) took the wickets for Penarth as they lost by eight runs.

The second XV had more success as they romped home to an impressive win at home to Panteg.

The visitors won the toss and chose to field first.

Penarth managed 188 before they were bowled out as John Tose hit a valuable 45 with an unbeaten 32 from Andy Graveson and 34 from Tom Pascoe adding crucial runs.

The bears knocked over their opponents for just 74 in the 29th over.

Tom Pascoe took an incredible 4-9 with 3-23 from Andy Graveson and 3-31 from Morgan Humphreys guiding Penarth home to a comfortable 114 run victory.

The third team's game at home to Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer and the fourth team's game away at Radyr were called off.

Next week the first team entertain Mumbles at the Athletic Ground as the seconds travel to Tondu.

The thirds visit Radyr and the fourths host Hopkinstown.
