THE top of the table clash between Sully and St.Fagans lived up to expectations as the Spartans ran out winners by 11 runs in a nail biting finale.

Losing the toss the Spartans were put into bat on a damp but drying wicket and after the loss of two quick wickets a period of stability was needed and Bablu and Gerrard were the two players to provide that as the score at that time read 12 for 2 after seven overs.

Gerrard and Bablu (31) pushed the score to 70 before Bablu was well bowled.

Gerrard (39) hit two fours before being caught and another quick wicket left the Spartans on 95 for 5 after 24 overs and really struggling to set a decent target.

Sathish, Sam and Inam all hit a couple of fours but would all hold out in similar fashion as the Spartans struggled to get to 126 for 7 after 30 overs which has to be said was down to some tight accurate bowling from St. Fagans .

Morgan (18) joined Tom Burns as they added 31 for the eighth wicket taking the score to 157 off 36 overs before Morgan was well caught.

Burns and Davies added 10 for the final wicket as Sully ended after the allotted 40 overs on 167 for 9, and with a slow outfield and low track it would not be easy to chase as long as the Spartans bowlers kept to a line and a length.

At 90 for 3 the writing was on the wall for Sully as their unbeaten league campaign so far was in jeopardy.

Inam 1 for 24 had bowled with little luck and Sathish 2 for 27 on a different day would have taken more wickets.

Man of the Match Gerrard with 3 for 25 off 9 overs and Morgan 4 for 39 off 9 overs turned the match around and it has to be said there were a few scary moments and after all this the efforts to get the game played despite all the rain proved worthwhile.
