THE summer holidays have started, but the first week off school for the juniors up at Dinas Powys Lawn Tennis Club was spent playing competitive tennis, and making friends and life long memories at the 2017 Junior Closed Tournament Week.

More than 80 junior members took part throughout the week long event, that has grown and grown thanks to the tennis coach, Rob Walbyoff, his able helpers, and of course the tireless work of the junior committee. The week culminates in a Wimbledon like Finals Day on the Saturday, where all age group finalists battle it out to become champion. Play started at 9.30am, and the weather behaved, so the last match was completed by 5pm. There was a fabulous BBQ for the large contingent of spectators, plenty of Pimms and refreshments, a bouncy castle for the kids who had any energy left to burn, a magnificent raffle, where all prizes were donated, followed by a wonderful presentation of over 100 cups, trophies and medals.Everyone was then invited to dance the night away at the disco. A massive congratulations to all the competitors, to the champions, to Rob and to all the many helpers who help make this event so special.
