THE RECTORY boys continued their winning ways in the Munro Cup recently excellent victories over Llantwit Major and Sully Sports. The trip to Llantwit brought the best out of captain Mike's team assembling three rinks up and one drawing, producing a 13-1 points tally.

A close and low scoring game overall produced a 10 shot margin (57-47) with the Colin Grant, Colin Hicks, Guy Thomas and Terry Buckingham providing the best result, winning by six shots (14-8).

Grant junior skipped his rink to a one shot win, with Dave Clement bowling one excellent wood all night.

Dave Dalby managed a two shot (12-10) win, whilst Clive Fry scrambled a 16-16 draw.

Sully Sports were the next Munro opposition coming over to Penarth and getting soundly beaten on all rinks (95-34). Dave Dalby, Dave Plank, Bob Willmott and Jack Beanland took the plaudits on the night with a convincing 31-8 margin.

Close behind them came the rink of Dave Clement, Phil Crocker, Mike Conway and Ron Birkby which secured a 28-7 win. The overall 14 point haul was assisted by the rinks skipped by Rob Grant (19-10) and Nick Chandler (17-9).

This late run of form may just be a little too late to pose a challenge to leaders Barry Romilly although second place is a distinct possibility.

However the challenge for the third promotion spot from PG1 division 3 is still very much on the cards as Penarth secured an excellent 10-4 points win over close rivals Pontyclun at Rectory Road.

A real battle ensued and winning rinks skipped by Dave Dalby (23-18) and Nick Chandler (19-15) were good enough to hold off Pontyclun and produce a six shot victory (75-69).

Rob Grant rink went down by two shots (17-19) and Dave Clements by one shot (16-17).

So close to a maximum 14 point haul.

However the victory has raised them in to the third promotion spot and with only three games left, the likelihood of winning promotion is all in their hands. A victory at Windsor on Saturday is a real must and will go a long way to securing Penarth's fate.
