PENARTH'S cricketers were well beaten at home to Neath on Saturday (August 19).

The bears were put into bat first by their visitors who won the toss.

Penarth were bowled out for 114 in the 48th over of their innings.

Richard Skone with 26 runs and Scott Matthews with 24 runs were the main contributors with the bat.

Neath reached the required target in the 29th over for the loss of just two wickets.

Steffan Roberts finished unbeaten on 51 for the away side with a run out and Tom Sidford (1-18) being responsible for the only wickets as Neath won by eight wickets.

The seconds XI were also beaten on Saturday.

Playing away to Miskin Manor, the bears won the toss and opted to field first.

Miskin Manor finished on 203-9 from their 50 overs as Morgan Crimp picked up a terrific 4-30 with the ball as Tom Pascoe chipped in with 2-26.

In reply, Penarth got close but were bowled out for 190 with two overs remaining.

James Erasmus with 33 and Morgan Humphreys with 30 were the bears' top scorers as Miskin Manor won a tight contest by 12 runs.

There was no game for the third XI this week as their fixture away at Upper Rhondda was called off.

The fourths claimed the club's only win last weekend as they beat Cynon Valley at the Athletic Ground.

The away side won the toss and asked Penarth to bat first.

The bears hit a very competitive 204-5 from their 40 overs with 69 from Nick Viner and 49 from his opening partner David Carter leading the way.

Penarth's bowlers then skittled Cynon Valley out for just 77 with two balls to spare.

Dan Grosfils (2-7), captain Andrew Prickett (2-8) and Alex Langrish (2-14) were the pick of the Penarth bowlers as they won by a mammoth margin of 127 runs.

Next week sees the last round of fixtures for the club of the 2017 season.

The first team welcomes Cardiff to the Athletic Ground as the seconds travel to Cardiff.

The thirds host Undy and Magor and the fourths finish away at Abercarn.
