THE Easter break signals the start of the summer tennis season and Penarth Windsor’s mini/junior members were quick off the mark at the recent Cardiff Met Open.

Charlie Newman, Max Lendrum and Matthias Ruggles all took part in the Mini Red 8&U event, all 3 reaching the knockout stages where Matthias took the event title.

In the 9&U Mini Orange category, Evan Lendrum reached the semi-finals, and in the full-ball junior events Addy Bradley-Glinister scooped wins against higher rated players to finish as event winner in the 14&U Boys and runner-up in the 16&U Boys.

Pictured are four of the club’s mini players who took part in the recent Black Dog Masters finals where they also performed extremely well and further developed their tennis skills.

There’s more to come on the courts in coming weeks for both new and regular players with the launch of the Team Tennis 2018 campaign for all ages and a series of Tennis Festivals, one of which will be held at the upcoming Penarth Windsor British Tour event.

This will be Wales’ highest ranking tennis tournament where senior players from across the UK travel to Penarth from 7th-12th to compete for prestigious Tier 1 rankings points.

Entry is free for spectators throughout the week, with a Great British Tennis Weekend Open Day on Saturday 12th May offering free coaching for all.
