FORMER Newport County AFC star Lee Evans is part of the Wales under-21s side preparing to take on the old enemy England in Derby on Wednesday night.

Newport-born Evans, who left County for Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2013, will be up against a host of Premier League stars in the Euro 2015 qualifier at the iPro Stadium (kick-off 6pm).

England under-21s, managed by Gareth Southgate, include the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Thomas Ince, Jack Butland and Carl Jenkinson in their ranks.

And former England international Southgate can also call upon West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino, the man who scored a hat-trick against County in the Capital One Cup in August and has scored six goals in four games for the under-21s.

And Wales will also have to be aware of the threat of Championship aces Danny Ings, Ravel Morrison and Derby County star Will Hughes at his home ground.

Wales intermediate teams manager Geraint Williams said: “This is a great game for our lads to play in. It should be a big crowd, at a great stadium and against a class opposition.

“We know that this is a very stern test and we will have to be at our best.”

Williams’ side are currently third in group one, three points behind second-placed Moldova with a game in hand.

Wales are six points behind leaders England, who clocked up a record-breaking 9-0 win over San Marino last time out.

Cardiff City defender Declan John has been handed a first call-up and Southampton's Lloyd Isgrove is recalled to the squad.

Blackburn Rovers defender Adam Henley has been released from the Wales squad as he will not be 100 per cent fit for the game and it has been decided not to risk him.

Fulham’s George Williams has also replaced Torquay United’s Billy Bodin, who has withdrawn because of injury.

Tickets for the game are still available, priced at just £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s. These can be purchased by calling 0871 472 1884 (option 1) or by visiting WeAreDerby.com.
