FORMER Newport County AFC midfielder Lee Evans could still be involved in Wales’ Euro 2016 qualifiers next week despite an injury scare on Wednesday night, writes Andrew Penman.

Newport-born Evans, who left County for Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2013, was called up to the senior squad for the first time by manager Chris Coleman this week.

If he wins a first senior cap against Bosnia & Herzegovina next Friday or Cyprus the following Monday it will trigger another cash instalment from Wolves to County.

That was put in doubt as the 20-year-old was forced off with an apparent hamstring injury in his club’s defeat to Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.

But it appears there is still hope for the former Exiles star.

“Lee has got a tight hamstring,” said Wolves boss Kenny Jackett after the match – the club’s first league defeat at Molineux in 2014.

“It hasn’t pulled but he has a tight hamstring and we’ll have to see how it is tomorrow.

“Generally it’s not something that clears up in a day or two but we will assess it and we hope he has come off before it’s too bad.”

Wolves are back in action against Wigan on Saturday and Evans is unlikely to feature but he could be fit to link up with the Wales squad next week.
