WALES cannot rely on Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale to secure Euro 2016 qualification on his own, says Ben Davies.

After scraping a win in Andorra in the opening game of the campaign, Chris Coleman’s men host Bosnia-Herzegovina tomorrow and Cyprus on Monday in a key qualifying double-header.

And, while Davies is delighted to have the world’s most expensive player leading the line for Wales, he says the rest of the squad need to raise their game as well if they are to end the nation’s long wait to qualify for a major tournament.

“Gareth is a world class player but you can’t rely on him as a player to do everything for you,” said the Spurs left-back ahead of tomorrow night’s clash at the Cardiff City Stadium.

“We’ve all got to step up to the mark and all do our best to win the game.”

Former Swansea City defender Davies became the latest Welsh prospect to move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, following in the footsteps of Bale and Newport’s Chris Gunter.

And he says the transformation of Bale from struggling to get into the side at White Hart Lane to starring at the Bernabéu is an inspiration.

“It’s clear to see what he’s bringing and the quality he’s got and he’s constantly improving,” said the 21-year-old.

“He’s playing with better players every day now. He’s with some of the best players in the world in Madrid and that’s what is improving him.

“It’s an inspiration to all of us to show what can be done with the hard work that he’s putting in.

“And his commitment to this Welsh team is great for us as a squad. It’s a big boost every time we get to go out on the pitch with him.”

Davies says the players will be able to cope with the added pressure of expectation on their shoulders this week.

“We’re all aware of how big these games are, even as early as they are in the group, but we’re excited and we’ve got to be up for the challenge ahead of us,” he added.

“It’s nice obviously to start off the campaign with a win and we all use that word momentum, which is what we’ve got to try to aim for.

“We need to kick on and pick up more points in these two games to put ourselves in a good position.”
