ALEX Cuthbert is a player that thrives on the Test scene and is confident of being back to his best when Wales open their autumn series against Australia next Saturday.

The winger has a stunning record of 12 tries in 26 appearances for his country while he also struck for the Lions against the Wallabies.

But the 24-year-old hasn't been able to shine as brightly for a Cardiff Blues side that have spluttered at the start of the Guinness Pro12 with his only try of the season coming against Zebre on opening weekend.

"It has been very frustrating for me because I am a player who likes to get the ball as much as possible," said the right winger.

"That is where I do my damage and not to have been able to do that over the last six weeks has been very frustrating. I have been trying to get my form right and get back to my peak.

"It is about keeping my head on the game and working hard on what I can do on and off the field.

"I would not say I have had all my best games for Wales because there have been a few for Cardiff Blues as well," he continued.

"But when you come into the Welsh environment it is a lot more intense and there are smaller margins for error."

Cuthbert has lined up against the Wallabies six times for Wales and is yet to enjoy victory.

And he says that Warren Gatland's team will need to produce a huge performance to get over the line, regardless of the tourists' troubled month that has seen them lose to Argentina, having disciplinary issues and seen boss Ewen McKenzie head for the exit.

"Just because they have changed their coach and lost a few away games, I don't think you can read too much into that," said Cuthbert.

"They are playing well and could have won any of those away games. They could have beaten the All Blacks in the last game and with their new coach (Michael Cheika) coming in now he will add more to the players' confidence and the squad.

"They are playing a match against the Barbarians this weekend before they play us so they will be up and running by the time they play us."
