DEFENDER Ben Davies says Friday’s friendly against the Netherlands is a chance for Wales to show that they can cope without star men Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, writes Andrew Penman.

Chris Coleman’s men take on the Dutch at the Cardiff City Stadium without Bale, Ramsey and first choice striker Hal Robson-Kanu.

But Spurs full-back Davies is adamant that the game is a chance to show that there is more to Wales’ success than the star names.

“Friendlies are the perfect opportunity to see the quality you've got throughout the squad,” said the 22-year-old.

“I am confident that everybody in this squad is capable of doing a job.

“We've lost two very good players but we're confident that everybody in this squad is here for a reason.

“We don't have any players that are here to make up the numbers and if they get the opportunity to play they'll do the best they can on that field.

“It’s definitely a chance to show we're not a one-man or two-man team, which we have been labelled.

“You need the quality they've got to get us through some games but the chances now are for the other players and we've got a chance as team to show we're about that rather than one or two players.

“Every player has to perform out on field, starting on Friday night.

“Going into a major tournament we can't afford to carry any players. Anybody that wears that shirt has to prove they're good enough to be in final squad.

“As a test Holland is a great starting point for us,” he added.

“The preparations for Euros start on Friday for us. “We've got to be going into games like this looking to do well if we're going to do anything next summer.”

The last time Wales faced the Netherlands was in June 2014 in Amsterdam, when the hosts were preparing for the World Cup in Brazil and Davies is delighted that the boot is on the other foot this time.

“We were a preparation game for them last time, it's our turn now for them to come to us,” he said.

“It’s a good test. They are still a very good team even though they didn't qualify – they’ve got some very good players got to be aware of.

“They're out to prove a point and we're expecting a tough test.”
