CHRIS Gunter is keen for Wales to keep their momentum going when they face Ukraine in Kiev on Monday.

The Newport-born right-back praised his side’s never-say-die attitude after striking late to draw 1-1 with Northern Ireland on Thursday.

And he wants Wales to approach their penultimate game before Euro 2016 just as they did against the Irish.

“We’ve got a decent result and hopefully we can back that up on Monday,” he said.

“Away games in international football are different to a club game away from home.

“We need to make sure we go there and put on a performance, and hopefully we can get a result.

“It’s the last but one game before the summer so it’s important and I’m sure there will be a few different faces again.

“Whoever is on the pitch needs to make sure we approach the game as we did on Thursday and try and replicate the performance.

“At times I thought we were quite good.

“It was important we kept going and I think if you’ve come to watch Wales over the last 18 months to two years people will see we keep going and we never give up.

“That comes from our togetherness, so it’s nice that we haven’t lost the game and move on to Monday.”

After Ukraine, Wales complete their warm-up matches with a trip to Sweden on June 5, six days before they get their campaign at the Euros underway against Slovakia.

Boss Chris Coleman is using the Northern Ireland and Ukraine fixtures to look at players who, should they impress him, could be on the plane to France.

“I think it’s a fantastic squad to come into,” added Reading defender Gunter, who has won more than 60 caps for his country since 2007.

“There have been a lot of new faces this week and they’ll be looking to force their way into the squad.

“If we do have injuries and people unavailable then people who go in the summer have had that experience this week and will be good for it.”
