GARETH Bale has won the Champions League twice with Real Madrid but says Wales’ win over Russia is on a par with anything he’s achieved in football.

Bale scored the third goal to seal a remarkable victory following first half strikes from Aaron Ramsey and Neil Taylor.

The 3-0 win means Wales progress to the Euro 2016 knockout stages and the manner of the performance leaves Bale and teammates on a real high heading to Paris on Saturday night.

“It is hard to describe, it was an unbelievable occasion,” said the Madrid megastar in Toulouse.

“It is right up there with anything I have done. Given the pressure of the game that was one of the best team performances I have ever been a part of.

“We spoke after the England game that we needed to be better in keeping the ball, and we did that. “Obviously that created the space that allowed me, Rambo and the midfielders to get on the ball more and when you do that you get the chance to do what we do best.

“It was a great team performance, everything was spot on it was great.”

And Bale rejected suggestions that Russia were weak opposition.

“We were just very, very good,” he said. “We did our homework, we knew what to expect and I thought our game plan was perfect. It was amazing.

“We have had some amazing nights over the last few years but that was really incredible,” he added.

“To top the group is an even better feeling and it is one we want to keep having.”

Bale believes that topping Group B above England gives Wales a chance of making the quarter-finals in France.

“There are no easy games but this might give us a slightly easier game,” he said.

“Finishing top is better than second or third, it is good for us and we want to concentrate on ourselves and getting it right for the next game.

“We can only concentrate on ourselves and when we do that we know we perform well and that goes for everyone, including the fans.

“They were amazing and I just hope we can keep giving them reasons to celebrate.”
