A QUARTET of Dragons will go up against regional teammates when Wales Women take on the UK Armed Forces at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park tomorrow evening, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Remembrance match sees Rowland Phillips' side continuing to build towards next summer's World Cup in Ireland after a 15-0 win against Scotland a fortnight ago.

The head coach has tinkered with the XV from his first game in charge with three Dragons getting the nod – centre Rebecca De Filippo, fly-half Elinor Snowsill and loosehead prop Cerys Hale – while scrum-half Sian Moore is among the replacements.

The four will see some familiar faces in the opposition line-up in the capital with Wales and Dragons teammates centre Gemma Rowland, wing Beth Dainton and openside Sian Williams in the UK Armed Forces squad along with Ospreys wing Charlie Murray.

"It's a good chance for Rowland to see more Wales players in action," said flanker Williams, who is in the RAF, in her column for the BBC.

"Looking forward to the World Cup next year he needs to see as many people as he possibly can.

"And we need competition because the only way we can build as a squad is if we're all competing against each other and everyone is working hard because you've got the same goals.

"It's a huge positive that he can look at other players and they have the opportunity to step up.

"It's great he can open doors for other people and I still get the opportunity to play against Wales, which I'm happy about."

Phillips is relishing the test as he continues to prepare for the Six Nations and then the World Cup, which will pit his side against 2014 runners-up Canada and New Zealand.

"We knew by the nature of where we finished last year (in the Six Nations, fourth) that we'd be drawn in a tough pool, but each pool is tough - and that's testament to the strength of the women's game internationally," he said.

"We have set targets for ourselves and we are building confidence as a squad. We'll be ready come August to compete to the best of our ability and show our quality as a nation."

Gates open at 6.30pm and tickets can be bought on the gate, costing £5 for adults and £1 for under-16s.
