A GAMING convention and mini comic con is taking place this weekend, with all proceeds helping children charities in South Wales.

Dragondaze Games Convention and Comic Con will be between 10am and 5pm, at Newport Leisure Centre, on Saturday.

Guests are encouraged to whip out their finest cosplay costumes, with the chance to win cash prizes. The best adult cosplay will win £50 and the best junior costume will win £25.

Re-enactment guests are sure to contribute to the fun, with 29th MP’s, Napoleonic period Soldiers, and Company of the Raven attending.

There will be hundreds of fun games for guests to try for free; people can even play with a member of the Starship Bridge Crew on the Starship Bridge Simulator.

Two rooms will be set aside for gaming the balcony games room, which will host the Welsh Battletech Nationals, and the role-playing room.

There will also be more than 40 traders stalls at this exciting event, featuring a range of geektastic games and comics.

It will also be a chance for people to meet their heroes, with celebrity guests to include: Virginia Hey, Doug Cockle, CJ Gutteridge, Francois Pandolfo, David Stone, Vera Fossett, Eileen Roberts, and Toby Philpott.

A raffle will also take place on the day. Proceeds from the event will go to Barnardos Young Carers, a charity that helps young carers, and The Sparkle Appeal, which funds the Serennu Children’s Centre in Rogerstone.

There is a small car park by Newport Leisure Centre, and it is walking distance from Friars Walk and Kingsway car park.

Tickets are £7.50 for adults, or £5 for children over the age of 11.
