WESTBOURNE School has announced its delight at “another resoundingly successful year of sixth form results”.

Students studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme achieved a 100 per cent pass rate across the year group – the worldwide average pass rate for the diploma is 78 per cent.

The average score obtained by Westbourne’s graduates equates to A*AA at A Level using the UCAS tariff.

It means pupils are well placed for acceptance at some of the best universities, both in the UK and abroad.

Among them, head girl Alice Parker scored a maximum level seven with her grades, a feat achieved by only five per cent of students worldwide.

She will study English Literature at Exeter University.

Head boy Kelvin Tang also achieved his dream of attending Edinburgh University where he will read International Business.

Head of the school, Ken Underhill, said he was proud of all the students.

“The IB Diploma is an exceptional course and it prepares our students excellently for admission into university,” he said. “The success of our students this year is fitting testimony to their hard work and the consistent support and guidance provided by their teachers.”

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is highly-regarded by university admissions’ tutors.

IB Coordinator, Amy Lee said: “When I speak to admissions’ tutors about our students, they are always well-informed about the IB and particularly the capabilities of IB students – they are keen to attract diploma graduates to their institutions.

“Amidst uncertainty about the future of A Levels, consistent grade inflation and concerns about standards, the International Baccalaureate has maintained an internationally-acclaimed reputation for rigour and for producing students able to think for themselves - enabling them to succeed at University and beyond.”
