SOUTH Wales Fire and Rescue Authority has published its Improvement Plan which outlines key achievements between April 2013 and March 2014 including a 10 per cent decrease in the number of dwelling fires across South Wales.

The plan also outlines South Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s proposed Improvement Objectives for 2015/16.

The Fire and Rescue Authority are inviting feedback from communities on the 2015/16 objectives. This consultation will run until December 31.

Tudor Davies, Chair of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority said: “In the current economic climate we, along with other public sector organisations, face unprecedented financial challenges.

"We are looking closely at the way things are done to ensure we continue to provide efficient services to our communities, whilst reducing our budget. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are committed to making sure we continue to give the best possible service.”

Huw Jakeway, Chief Fire Officer for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, added: “It is essential that we have a clear direction and sense of priority. particularly at a time when the Service has to make significant financial savings.

"During 2014/15, we will continue to drive forward our two improvement objectives - to reduce deliberate fires and to develop closer relationships with our communities and partners."
