A CHARITY that has forged links between the Vale and a community in Africa recently welcomed two Ugandan doctors for a week long visit.
Vale for Africa organised the trip for Dr Proscovia Arach, a paediatric ophthalmologist, and Dr Thomas Ochar, medical director of the District Government Hospital in Tororo, Uganda
They spent time observing clinical practice at the University Hospital of Wales, at the optometry college, and with local optician Annette Dobbs at her practice in Barry. They also visited the Senedd, and joined Vale for Africa supporters for a meal at the Vegetarian Food Studio in Cardiff.
Ted Arbuthnot, Chair of Vale of Africa, said: "This visit has been a great success, and we are very grateful to the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for the welcome they extended to our guests, and to all our supporters for enabling this visit to happen. We want to continue to work with our Ugandan partners to help prevent and treat serious eye disease, which is a common problem in this area of Uganda."
Vale for Africa is a charity linking the communities of the Vale of Glamorgan and Tororo, Eastern Uganda.
Vale for Africa works in the field of healthcare, specifically eye disease, and education, and supports a scholarship enabling a Ugandan student to study in Wales. Vale for Africa is completely reliant on volunteers and donors, new members are always very welcome. For more information - www.valeforafrica.org.uk
