A ‘FRIENDS’ group for one of Penarth’s oldest buildings is set to be launched tonight.
Friends of St Peter’s Church, Old Cogan, will hold a meeting at All Saints Church at 7pm on Friday, March 27.
The newly launched group will discuss the difficulties facing St Peter’s Church at Old Cogan and how they plan to be overcome.
The group will also be looking at plans for the future
During the evening musical entertainment will be provided and light refreshments and drinks will be available forguests, who include the local Stephen Doughty MP and the Mayor of Penarth, Cllr Martin Turner, and the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Cllr Howard Hamilton.
Through fundraising events the Friends group would like to improve drainage to stop the ingress of water, replace the rotten wooden flooring, repair boundary walls, provide car parking facilities for visitors, build a toilet block, build a meeting hall, and promote the building.
Planning consent has already been given for a car park, an application has been made for lottery funding, architects have costed the urgent work needed, and the Friends group have held several meeting with a formal constitution approved.
To become a friend of the year will be £10 each or £15 for a couple.
Friends of St Peter’s Old Cogan will be launched at All Saints Church at 7pm on Friday, March 27.
