STRONG winds threatened to halt proceeding for the Sully Sailing Club Open Day on Saturday. An advanced sub-committee dubbed the “Three Wise Men” arrived at the club to assess conditions.

With winds forecast to drop, the decision was made, with trepidation, to continue.

As the first visitors arrived winds were still strong. It was clear that guests would be unable to take out single handed dinghies.

However, the safety boat was launched and guests were promised an “exciting” trip out in Sully Bay with experienced club sailors. Guests were warned that they “will get wet”.

Steady streams of guests were taken out for thrill rides in Enterprise and Topaz dinghies. Sailors returned with smiles on their faces which suggested that fun was had by all.

Unfortunately, conditions were not favourable for all visitors and they were invited to return for the club training session this Thursday evening at 6pm.

Club facilities and sailing dinghies are available for members to use all year round. A full sailing program takes place from March to December with regular club racing and cruising sessions taking place on Sundays.

Mid-week sailing sessions take place on Wednesday evenings and training sessions take place on Thursday evenings from April until September.
