THE FIREWORKS fiesta in Penarth is set to be held in Penarth for the the 41st successive year.

Penarth Round Table and both rugby clubs in Penarth are once again organising the event with support from the Vale of Glamorgan Council to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night at the Athletic Field on Lavernock Road.

This year's event will take place on Saturday, November 4.

James Carter from the Fireworks Fiesta committee said: "The purpose of the fiesta is to provide a pleasant evening with a spectacular display of fireworks as a means of celebrating Guy Fawkes Night, which can be enjoyed safely by families and the efforts of members of the clubs involved are committed to that end.

"The Athletic Field provides an ideal location for the event, with plenty of room to ensure a good view for everyone."

Admission to the field will be from 6pm. The fireworks display will commence at approximately 7pm preceded by a Guy Competition at 6.45pm, with cash prizes, which will be judged by the deputy town mayor, Cllr Mike Cuddy, chairman of Penarth Round Table Laith Khatib and chairman of Penarth RFC Mike Gooding.

Even with rising costs, admission charges are unchanged from last year at £5 for adults and £3 for children and young people under 14 years of age.

Now firmly established in the town’s calendar of events, the fiesta is seen as a safer way of celebrating Guy Fawkes Night.

Although not organised specifically as a charity event, the proceeds go to help with local charity work.

"The fiesta has been well supported by the people of Penarth and District in the past and we look forward to seeing them again this year," said Mr Carter.
