AN ARTIST from Penarth has taken her hometown as inspiration for her latest work as she prepares to exhibit at a number of events.

Katherine Jones, who grew up in and went to school in Penarth before studying architecture at Cardiff University, will be displaying her work at several events over the coming months.

Alongside her work as an architect, she produces pen and ink drawings and object art from items she collects on her travels, put together into bespoke box pieces.

Ms Jones has also done drawings of other local landscapes including Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Bay and Barry Island.

On November 4, she will be exhibiting at the Penarth Christmas Art Fayre at St Augustine’s Parish Hall before appearing at the Penarth and District Lesotho Trust Christmas Fayre on November 11 at Stanwell Baptist Church Hall.

And on November 19, her work will be on show at the Christmas Market at the Paget Rooms.

She says that landscapes are her main interest and that people enjoy seeing places they know in her work.

She also creates works of animals and landscapes inspired by her world travels.

A number of her works focus on central American and Caribbean countries such as Guatemala and Cuba.

“I am fairly new to the art world and have been selling my art for more than a year,” she said.

“People tend to like stuff that is more local to them.

“When I draw a place, I visit there and try to understand it.

“I map out a view in my head and then go from there.”

She says she plans on doing more drawings of Penarth itself in the future and that she has a busy Christmas

“I have lived in Penarth for most of my life and have had a really good response to my work.”
