A PRIMARY school has officially unveiled its new entrance area which is set to benefit the school for years to come.

The bespoke new entrance at Cogan Primary School was opened at a ceremony attended by pupils, staff and parents on Thursday, October 26 and the school choir performed.

The work was started in March and most of it was complete within 12 weeks with the roofs being finished later on.

As well as a new entrance area, it houses a community room, a teacher's room, a new head teacher's office, a PTA room, a support room and a room for small groups to use.

Former head teacher Anne Bowser joined current head teacher Susan Sibert and the oldest girl and youngest boy in the school to cut the tape to officially open the area.

Mrs Sibert said the project had been a long one.

"This one the biggest projects since I've been here," she said.

"We didn't want the space to go waste and it was pretty decrepit and needed attention.

"This is a huge achievement

She said the knock on effect in terms of freeing up space in the rest of the building for other activities.

She thanked building company Delta and project manager Mr Griffiths for doing a "marvellous job."

"I also want to mention the staff and governors who had the bravery to take it on.

"Without them we wouldn't have moved forward with it."

Artist Kate Derbyshire worked with the pupils on completing the mural which is located in the main welcome area and Mrs Sibert congratulated her and the pupils for making it look so beautiful.

"The children will really benefit," she added.
