AN OPERA was held at Dinas Powys Library recently to raise funds for the community run facility.

Since the Dinas Powys library became a charity run by volunteers last year, a programme of fund raising events have been organised.

Cardiff based Opera Company ‘Opera in Situ’ performed a ‘Spooky Spellbound Slumber’

Opera in Situ is an exciting, new Cardiff-based company which takes opera out of the theatre and into unique, unexpected places making it accessible to all.

The company is renowned for its inclusivity and their performers come from a wide spectrum of musical experience.

Introduced by Marianne Coupe on behalf of the trustees, the performance was based on ‘Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Magic Flute’ and ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’.

She reminded the audience that it cost £13,000 a year to run the library and people were invited to become friends of the Library.

Chris Franks, chairman of the library trustees thanked all who supported the evening which would provide vital funds to help keep the library open.

He also mentioned that the regular Thursday coffee mornings held at the library had restarted.

He said: "We have a band of 40 volunteers who serve the library users and there is a small board of trustees who manage the affairs of the charity.

"If anyone is interested in helping the library please call 02920 512556."
