A PENARTH business has been named Wales' Independent Jewellery Store of the Year for 2017.

Anne Morgan Jewellery of Glebe Street was triumphant at the first Welsh Independent Retail Awards which was held at Portland House in Cardiff on Thursday, October 26.

More than 200 guests attended the event to celebrate the independent sector in Wales

The awards seek to acknowledge local businesses and winners are seen as a true reflection of quality and customer service as they are chosen by members of the general public.

The Welsh Independent Retail Awards highlight the value of independent retailers to the communities they operate in, and try to recognise and reward the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen which lies behind the thriving industry, which has been contributing greatly to the economic growth of the country.

Anne Morgan said it is "amazing" news.

"We’re delighted to have made it to the finals of The Welsh Independent Retail Awards 2017 and over the moon that we won the Independent Jewellery Store of the Year," she said.

"We have a fantastic team that give our customers the best experience when buying jewellery here.

"We also have some of the best jewellery in the UK that is all hand made from a variety of materials and designs.

"Everything we offer is unique and personal and I’m delighted with our progress here in Penarth.

Having opened only two years ago we have had the most amazing support from our customers and businesses.

"Receiving awards like this is a great achievement for all the hard work we all put in."

The event was hosted by Polly James and Matt Lissack.

Several of the awards were split into local regions to ensure the diverse range of retail businesses from across Wales are recognised for their hard work.

Irfan Younis, CEO of organisers Creative Oceanic, said: "We were delighted to see so many people attending the inaugural Welsh Independent Retail Awards.

"It has been a fantastic evening and we are humbled and honoured by the positive response we have received. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners."
