PENARTH's MP has hailed the significance of a vote to give MPs a legal guarantee of a vote on the final Brexit deal.

Stephen Doughty read out the result of the vote in the House of Commons which saw defeat for UK Government on an amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill by 305 to 309 votes on Wednesday (December 13) evening.

Mr Doughty said that the vote has "huge significance" and show s that things can change for the better on Brexit if people stand up for what's right and work together in the national interest.

He said: "The Government thought they could simply railroad Parliament into whatever the Prime Minister and those pursuing a reckless hard or no deal Brexit want.

"They were reminded in stark terms last night that Theresa May put her wrong-headed approach to the country in June- and she lost her majority."

"Democracy and sovereignty mean the British public and Parliament have the right to change their mind on anything if the facts before them change.

"That is what taking back control means."
