AN ATTEMPTED cable theft on Boxing Day caused £5,000 worth of damage to the railway line towards Cogan.
Detectives from British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to following the attempted cable theft between Grangetown and Cogan on December 26.
Police say someone climbed over fencing to access the tracks and then caused significant damage to the railway signalling cable which cost Network Rail £5,000.
At the time, the man was on a black bicycle.
No cable was stolen during the incident but extensive repairs were needed in order for the trains to run again.
Officers from British Transport Police believe the man pictured may be able to help with their inquiries.
