PENARTH has been named as one of the top 10 places to live in Wales, according to a new guide set to be published in The Sunday Times this weekend.

The rankings have been decided by an expert panel and are based on a variety of factors such as jobs, schools and culture, as well as the judges' own experiences of the places named in the list.

Ten Welsh places have been named in the guide's list of 'Best Places to Live in Britain', with the Mumbles near Swansea ranked as the best in Wales.

Penarth is one of three Welsh places to retain its spot on the list from last year, along with Abersoch and Monmouth.

The guide also gives an indicator as to how much someone would be expected to pay for a starter home, mid-market home and a family home in each place named on the list.

A typical first-time buyer in Penarth would be likely to pay around £140,730, which was cheaper than around half of the other Welsh places on the list. A mid-market property however would be likely to set you back nearly £327,000, while an average family home comes in at more than £527,000

The Sunday Times' full guide is being published this Sunday, March 18 and covers the following regions: North and Northeast, Midlands, Northern Ireland, Southeast, Wales, Southwest, East, London, Scotland and the Northwest.

It will also reveal the overall best place to live in the UK.

Home editor at The Sunday Times, Helen Davies, said: "Choosing the right location to put down roots is one of the most important decisions you'll make, which is why we’re here to help.

"We’re very excited that it is a standalone magazine this year. There is much to celebrate, and Britain is scattered with thriving towns and villages, cool cities and suburbs, though people may be surprised how many traditional favourites haven’t made the cut in 2018.
