Sunday Times list names Penarth as one of the top places to live in Wales

The rankings have been decided by an expert panel and are based on a variety of factors such as jobs, schools and culture, as well as the judges' own experiences of the places named in the list.

Ten Welsh places have been named in the guide's list of 'Best Places to Live in Britain', with the Mumbles near Swansea ranked as the best in Wales.

Penarth is one of three Welsh places to retain its spot on the list from last year, along with Abersoch and Monmouth.

The guide also gives an indicator as to how much someone would be expected to pay for a starter home, mid-market home and a family home in each place named on the list.

A typical first-time buyer in Penarth would be likely to pay around £140,730, which was cheaper than around half of the other Welsh places on the list. A mid-market property however would be likely to set you back nearly £327,000, while an average family home comes in at more than £527,000

The Sunday Times' full guide is being published this Sunday, March 18 and covers the following regions: North and Northeast, Midlands, Northern Ireland, Southeast, Wales, Southwest, East, London, Scotland and the Northwest.

It will also reveal the overall best place to live in the UK.
