THE 1st Penarth Beavers took part in a sponsored 2.5km ‘Walk for Water’ around Cosmeston Lakes Country Park to support WaterAid’s life-saving work.
The walk also raised awareness of the millions of women and girls who spend hours each day walking to collect water, with the Beavers who took part carrying buckets of water on a hike around the Cosmeston park.
The 11 Beavers are among more than 27,000 young people from across the UK and globally who arranged walks as part of Scouting’s ground-breaking A Million Hands campaign.
The events, taking place on and around March 22 to mark World Water Day.
1st Penarth scout group assistant group scout leader, Stuart Ingram said: “We have been learning about the global water crisis for the Beavers Community Impact badge as part of the Scouts Association’s A Million Hands initiative.
“Eleven of our intrepid Beavers took part in a sponsored 2.5km night hike around Cosmeston Lakes Country Park.
“They carried buckets of water to understand what it is like for children in other countries who don’t have access to regular water supplies, who have to make similar trips on a daily basis. We are all really proud to be supporting WaterAid.”
