THE Penarth Branch of the RNLI joined in with the Cardiff Branch's Sail Day this year and helped raise more than £25,000.

A flotilla of 22 boats took off from Cardiff to take part in the event with around 200 people taking part in the donations, raffle and auction.

Speaking at the event, Philip Lay from RNLI Penarth Station said: "Each year this event builds on the success of previous events. So many people have helped and donated to the event, which has raised a terrific sum for the RNLI.

"These funds will really help us continue to save lives at sea by providing us with the very best training, equipment, and boats.

"The event is now firmly established and we are delighted to announce that next years event will take place on Friday, June 14."
