THIS week’s From the Archive section looks at the Pont y Werin bridge, Penarth Marina under construction in the summer of 2009. The bridge, which was under construction for around a year and finally opened in July 2010, is 140m in length and spans the river Ely. It was named after a competition was launched prior to its opening, Pont y Werin translates as “The Peoples Bridge”.
Many thanks to Dean Mears and Andrew Coslett of the Images of Bygone Penarth Facebook page for supplying this photograph.
