A COFFEE shop on Penarth Marina is appealing for witnesses after two people broke into their café in an attempt to steal cash over the weekend.

Coffee Compass, which is located in Compass House on the Penarth Marina, posted CCTV footage of two people in hoodies coming through the doors and trying to access the till on Saturday night at around 11.50pm.

Owner Craig Pugh said that although the burglars intruders may have been after cash, the business does not keep money on site overnight.

Mr Pugh said: “Unfortunately last night these two individuals decided to break into our cafe and take what they thought they were entitled to. We are a small company who employ a number of people, so an act of crime like this could hit certain companies hard. “Luckily they only got away with minor things as we don’t keep money on the premises, but if anyone has any idea who these two are please send us some information or contact the police.”

South Wales Police confirmed the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A spokeswoman said: “A 30-year-old man from Cardiff has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. He was arrested on suspicion of two burglaries in the Penarth area and two in the Cardiff area.

“He has been released under investigation.

“Anyone with any information which could assist officers can call 101 quoting reference 1800372185 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,” said the spokeswoman.
