POP STAR and last year's X-Factor winner Leona Lewis - whose mother is from Dinas Powys - is set to release a single from her new album.

Leona's mum Maria Lewis, 43, grew up in Dinas Powys and attended Murch Junior School and St Cyres Comprehensive.

Leona's new single, called Bleeding Love, is Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills' record of the week.

The new single, written by Ryan Tedder and recorded in LA, is due to be released on October 29.

Leona's as yet untitled album will be released on November 5 in the UK.

Leona has been working with Simon Cowell and executive producer Clive Daives on the new album.

Leona said: "I've been treated as my own person. I've not been given a formula to follow. I had the time to find my feet and co-write a lot of material.

"The album is classic songs with a contemporary edge. There's a few ballads and there's some up-tempo stuff too.

"This album is from an honest, genuine place," she added.

"I know some people are asking, 'where has she gone?' "But I wanted everyone who has supported and worked with me to have an album they're proud of, one that is credible and one with songs that people can connect to."
