PENARTH Cricket Club Under-11s rounded off the year in style by clinching the Cricket Wales Indoor league for their age group at Sophia Gardens Cardiff on Sunday evening.

Penarth were joined on finals night by Cardiff CC, St Fagans CC and Newport CC who had all finished in the top four of the league at the end of the regular season.

Penarth started their semi-final well, some fine bowling and great fielding restricting a strong St Fagans side to a score of 168 from their 12 overs.

Penarth batted well throughout their innings and Luke Summerfield kept his nerve to secure a place in the final with a single off the last ball of the match.

The final against Cardiff CC was an equally tense affair; some fine batting, most notably from Dylan Clarke, Luke Summerfield and Evan Friis saw Penarth post a competitive score of 171.

There was still much work to be done with the ball though and Isaac Foster and Adam Akhtar took some crucial wickets to put Penarth within sight of victory.

Some tight bowling at the death from Isaac Foster and Kiran Rayani restricted Cardiff to 165 and Penarth were able to claim the victory after a nail biting affair.

Joint coaches Adrian Foster and Lee Clarke were delighted with the boys’ performance in both games and throughout the indoor season.

Adrian said the results were a reflection of the hard work all the squad members had put in over the summer and that the boys should be proud of how well they had played – both individually and as a team.
