ATTEMPTS are being made to reunite a collection of old black and white photographs with their owner.

Mum-of-two Christine Jackson, who lives in Malpas, stumbled across three soaking wet photographs by accident a few weeks ago.

Mrs Jackson had been cleaning her car in Sainsbury's petrol station in Newport when she made the discovery.

"They were right by the vacuum pump," she said.

"I saw three images and a scrap paper. The photographs were soaking wet and had peeled off the page.

"I could not believe it. Someone must have dropped them by mistake.

"Some of the pictures look as if they were taken in the 1940s."

The lost photographs

The three pictures - none of which measure more than 10cm in length - depict a young girl, four women together and a baby.

Mrs Jackson, 33, said she felt "dreadful" for the person who had lost them.

And she now hopes that by speaking out they can be returned to the rightful owner.

"Someone had taken their time to put these photos in a scrap book," she said.

"They must have thought a lot of them. I am interested in family trees and that is why I want the rightful owner to find them.

"I came to Wales from Canada in 2010 to enrol in Cardiff University’s Conservation Practice pilot programme. It ties in rather nicely because I have a massive soft spot for all things old and damaged. I have assisted in the uncovering and consolidation of multi-layered wall paintings in churches. They are not sentimental to me directly, but they obviously are to someone else, and even if one person appreciates something, that makes it a treasure worth keeping safe.

"I really hope we find out who they belong to."
